Proposals for the Furtherance and Propagation of the Gospel

by John Owen

A landmark 1652 parliamentary document in two parts: practical proposals for organizing gospel ministry across England — approving preachers, reforming parishes, and removing unfit ministers — followed by sixteen foundational principles of Christian doctrine (Scripture's authority, the Trinity, the person of Christ, justification by faith, resurrection, and judgment) drawn directly from biblical proof-texts. A rare window into Puritan church-statecraft at the height of the Interregnum.

Proposals for the furtherance and propagation of the Gospel in this nation, as the same were humbly presented to the Honourable Committee of Parliament by divers ministers of the Gospel, and others. Which were also presented in explanation of one of the said proposals.
