USE IV.

Let this afford a solemn word of advice to parents, it is a favor of God to you, that your children are in the vineyard: but rest not in it, God has made it your duty to endeavor that they may be trees of renown there: your families should be nurseries for the Church of God; and it is an office that you bear, to dress the nursery that is under your charge: if you neglect it, and your children thereupon prove to be unprofitable and wild olives, briars instead of figtrees, it will be a righteous judgment of God upon you; and they also will have reason to accuse you another day. Be quickened to your duty; they will not bear of themselves, pains must be taken, and though the blessing depends upon God, yet he is wont to confer it upon us when we are in the faithful use of the means.
