Humble Proposals of Mr. Owen Goodwin Nye and Others

by John Owen

A landmark 1652 petition to the English Parliament, jointly drafted by leading Congregationalist divines — Owen, Goodwin, Nye, and Sympson — calling for Gospel propagation and church reform across the Commonwealth. The proposals address three urgent concerns: supplying every parish with godly, orthodox ministers; establishing rightly constituted churches with approved pastors; and preventing the spread of dangerous errors in public assemblies. A rare window into Puritan statecraft, balancing liberty of conscience with doctrinal accountability in a fractured nation.
