A Word of Comfort for the Church of God
by Thomas Watson
A 1662 sermon preached in the shadow of the Great Ejection, expounding Psalm 46:5. Watson argues that God's providential presence in the midst of His Church renders all opposition futile — tracing His deliverances through history by unthought-of, contemptible, and contrary means. He then turns prophetic, warning of nine sins that drive God from a nation, before offering six seeds of hope for suffering England. Tender, bold, and anchored in Scripture throughout, it remains one of Watson's finest pastoral addresses to a church under fire.
